Apple’s attempt to block the import of Smart Phones made by NTC Corporation underscores the growing importance of the international Trade Commission in settling patent disputes over Smart phones, one of the fastest growing areas in technology. On March 2nd, Apple filed a patent-infringement complaint with the ICT in Washington, alleging that HTC has been using apple technology without permission. A decision in favor of Cupertino, California based Apple may bar HTC from importing it’s device to the U.S. Device Manufacturers view the ITC as a more efficient and aggressive judge of patent complaints which can sometimes take years to bring conflicts to a resolution.
